The Fall & Rise of Lenny Smallman

Written and performed by Richard Lumsden

A struggling songwriter tries to follow in the footsteps of his heroes but life, of course, never turns out as planned,

and his road to middle-age is strewn with unsuccessful relationships and disappointing career moves.  On his

epic journey into adulthood, he gradually realises his lifelong dreams won’t be coming true, then a big music

festival gives him an opportunity for one final moment of glory. Then again, something could always go wrong…

Written and performed by Richard Lumsden (Sugar Rush, The Catherine Tate Show) this warm-hearted comedy

was named the Time Out Critic’s choice as one of the ‘best plays in London’ at it’s London premiere.

'warm-hearted and perfectly executed.

Richard Lumsden has that Richard Curtis-like ability to recast old tropes in hilarious ways,

and to balance them with a poignancy that, if sentimental, is joyfully crowd-pleasing.

This is great date theatre. Go along, have a laugh.'

Kieron Quirke, Time Out

'Ziggy eat your Stardust –

Lumsden will be hero for more than one day!

It is an uplifting, feelgood comedy that propels its audience on a rollercoaster ride.

Highly entertaining and the various anecdotes are accompanied by equally brilliant songs, the lyrics of which are hysterical!

The structure of the show is nothing short of brilliant. This was more than mere theatre –

it was a musical extravaganza!

It is, indeed, a tale of epic proportions and certainly one not to be missed!'

Emma Whitelaw, IndieLondon.co.uk

'Funny, touching, evocative, and ultimately thought provoking.

Richard Lumsden is wonderful - with the ability to touch the hearts of those watching by

evoking such clear imagery that you can almost smell the atmosphere.

Not only a talented actor and writer, but also accomplished musician -

and I defy anyone not to feel in awe by the end.'
